What's NEW this year?

If you are focused on saving for retirement, ask about our newest option to help you fund Taylor County Schools’ existing post-tax retirement options. A portion of your tax savings can be used to begin or increase contributions to your 457(b) or 403(b) ROTH options.

How do I access the wellness portal?

On your effective date, you will receive a welcome email from member@ahwus.com with instructions to get started. (Be sure to check in spam or junk folders)

What am I required to do for compliance?

You need to login into the Attentive portal and complete the intake survey. This has to be done at least once per year.

Do I have to participate?

It is not a mandatory that you enroll in this benefit.

NEWLY HIRED EMPLOYEES: Please schedule your appointment to learn about your qualified tax savings and benefits options. 

If you have already seen a Prevent+Protect Benefits Counselor, you do not need to schedule another appointment. 

Are these benefits free?

No. This program uses federal incentives in the tax code to cover the cost of the program. You are allowed to reclaim some the payroll taxes that you pay from your wages every paycheck and use them on qualified programs for your health and wellbeing. 

Will this affect my social security?

Yes. This program also uses a pre-tax premium that is similar to how most employees pay for their health insurance. Pre-tax premiums will lower taxable wages, which means you will pay less in payroll taxes out of each paycheck.

Taxable wages are also the basis for calculating future Social Security benefits and impacts of pre-tax programs vary by individual. Consider guidance directly from the Social Security Administration that social security benefits are not meant to be your only means of retirement savings.

This program allows you to redirect some of your retirement savings into other mechanisms, such as your employer-sponsored Roth retirement funds or permanent life policies that accrue cash value over time. 

Does this change the way I file my taxes?

No. You will still file your taxes the same way, using your W2 and your wages reported in Box 1.

The only change you’ll notice going forward is that your wages that are now qualified as non-taxable will be reported in Box 14.

How can I confirm this is all tax compliant?

There are some programs that claim have similar advantages as our program, but they have failed to take the proper steps in architecting their program. The tax-advantage provided through the Attentive program has been vetted by a tier-one tax firm and multiple associations. Still, you should confirm the compliance of any tax benefit that you choose to implement.
