Bearing Advisors, LLC has released the recording of its National League of Cities webinar, “Better Benefits, Better Talent: A New Way to Finance Employee Benefits.”
The webinar is moderated by Jim Hunt, host of the Amazing Cities Podcast, past president of the National League of Cities, and Executive Vice President of Bearing Advisors. It features Mike Conduff, Executive Vice President of Bearing Advisors and a former city manager in Texas and Kansas. Together they discuss the balancing act cities face: rising health care costs, tight budgets, workforce shortages, and growing pressure to offer competitive employee benefits.
The conversation introduces Prevent+Protect, a Bearing Advisors program offered through the NLC Enterprise Partner Program. Designed to work alongside a city’s existing health plan, Prevent+Protect brings together physical health, mental health, and financial health resources to encourage earlier intervention and address preventable risks. Its funding approach is designed to let cities provide these services without a new benefit appropriation or a reduction in employee take-home pay.
“Cities do not have to accept rising health care costs as something they are powerless to influence,” said Hunt. “Employee benefits should not be viewed only as an expense. They are also a strategic investment in the city’s workforce.”
